Brief description of Aims and Activities

We are raising funds to buy drugs to neuter and treat the many street animals in Marmaris and surrounding villages. Additionally we are aiming, with fund raising to purchase a Portacabin,a place where we can hold dogs for short periods in order for them to be neutered and/or treated and a safe and clean place for them to recuperate before they are released back to the streets, if we are unable to find homes for them.

We offer free neutering to the villagers who own dogs who cannot (or will not) pay vet fees. We offer information sheets on how to look after your dog not only to people who have a dog/cat as a pet, but for the villagers who have dogs as working dogs. We are trying to educate these villagers that dogs will not work well for them if they have to exist on bread only and that they must always give fresh water to their animals. Additionally we are trying (with some success) to show the locals who have their dogs chained continually on a 6 inch chain guarding their tomato plants some 12 inches away is totally unacceptable!

We have been successfull in stopping poisoning of dogs and cats by the local municipalities.

However, Marmaris municipality still thinks taking dogs off the streets and locking them in a dog pound is the answer.
