Brinsley Animal Rescue Work Day Brinsley Animal Rescue is a not for profit organisation dedicated to caring for animals. Our primary mission is to relieve the suffering of animals and birds. Many of the animals that come to us are simply ’surplus to requirements’ from the meat, dairy and egg industry. Because such animals are deemed unprofitable then it is our aim to take them on and find them loving homes in which they can enjoy the retirement they deserve.
Nottm AR has regular work days here - fence building, staining, aviary building, mucking out, rabbit run building and more. Transport approx 6.30pm from City Centre - call Danny to confirm: 07593 375270. (Also possibly on Tuesdays from Beeston - call Lee 07599 282851) |

Nottingham Greyhound Stadium Demo Regular demos fortnightly on Fridays from 6.30pm at the track, til approx 8pm.Sadly, deaths and serious injuries to dogs running on the tracks are relatively common, and the existence of a major track like Nottingham is responsible for the putting to death of about 500 greyhounds every year. According to the Guardian, March 17th: "Greyhound tracks are closing and the industry isn't doing enough to care for the thousands of dogs who face an uncertain fate" Nottingham Animal Rights have to educate people about the suffering of racing dogs, leafleting at Nottingham Greyhound Stadium, usually on alternate Friday evenings, from 6pm. If you live in or near the East Midlands area and would like to help, please email to confirm or call c/o 07870 861837. |

SWAT - Stop Wickham Animal Testing Annual demonstration against Wickham laboratory to be held on Saturday 25 September 2010. Meet at mid-day in Mill Lane car-park in Wickham, Hampshire, PO17 5HY.
Wickham Research laboratory is currently being investigated by the Home Office for animal cruelty after a 8 month undercover operation by the BUAV, of which it is understood that the Home Office could soon reach its findings. Winchester City Council last year refused a planning application by Wickham labs to build new laboratories at Torbay Farm, Lower Upham, Hampshire, the laboratory has appealed against the refusal. It is now even more important to support this annual demonstration / protest to highlight the objections of the usage of the LD50 Test used within Wickham Research Laboratory. |

World Day for the Abolition of Meat World Day for the Abolition of Meat is intended as a means of promoting the idea of abolishing the murder of animals for meat. Worldwide six million sentient beings are killed for their meat every hour! That figure doesn't even count sea animals, which of course are included in the demand for the abolition of meat. Meat consumption causes more suffering and death than any other human activity and is completely unnecessary. Many groups will mobilize to promote the abolition of meat (and other animal products). They will not only advocate vegetarianism and veganism to individuals but will call for society to abandon the practice of killing animals for food. We hope that this initiative will strengthen the animal rights movement over the years. It is important to address people both as consumers and as citizens – like the anti-slavery activists who, although only a small minority, not only sought a boycott of sugar produced by slaves but also clearly expressed the idea that slavery should be banned. It is important today to question society as a whole about the murder of animals for meat so that it can no longer avoid a public debate on the legitimacy of this practice. On 31 January conferences, street actions, leafleting and information stands will be organized to spread the idea that the consumption of meat cannot be justified ethically and should therefore be abolished – just as human slavery was in its time. |

McLibel: Human Rights Victory Anniversary Anniversary of 2005 McLibel victory at European Court of Human RightsThe European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg declared that the notorious and long running McLibel case was in breach of the right to a fair trial and right to freedom of expression, thereby voiding any solace that McNasty may have enjoyed from the trial. The Court ruled that UK laws had failed to protect the public’s right to criticise massive corporations whose business practices can affect people’s lives, health and the environment. Meanwhile after spending £10million to suppress free speach, McDonalds find that the most widely distributed protest leaflet ever, continues to be distributed worldwide...
