NG7 Food Bank

http://sphotos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/527816_293758744070710_769348868_n.jpg The NG7 Food Bank distributes food parcels by referral ONLY on Fridays at 12pm noon. Clients need to be referred by one of the referral agencies: Nottingham Law Centre, St Annís Advice, Nottingham CAB, Age UK and the Meadows Advice Centre.

The NG7 Food Bank has always been very clear that food banks should not solely be about feeding people. Where possible we have also signposted and supported people wishing to challenge issues such as Benefit Sanctions, Bedroom Tax. Currently nearly half of NG7 food bank users are there due to benefit sanctions and delays in processing benefit claims.

We have supported a range of campaigns in the last year from NoToG4S (asylum seeker humanitarian housing) going to private firm G4S, Welfare reforms, Bedroom Tax, Payday loans. ...more....

Note that this is not a Sumac event so volunteers are asked to contact the co-ordinator first to find out the best way to help.

Details of other Food Banks around Nottingham may be found at the Hope Nottingham website

Sumac Community Food Garden

/sumac/images/survivegrowsharelearn.jpg The Sumac garden has been turned into mini community allotments! The vegetable beds are divided up in to small plots. Individuals and groups can request this space to grow fruit, vegetables, herbs, and flowers for local wildlife.

Local food production is an important part of a low carbon society. We want to encourage, support and learn about food growing in Forest Fields. Sumac's garden is organic and laid out to show the best use of a small space. It is full of ideas you could use to grow your own.

Contact fffgcmail@lists.aktivix.org if you are keen to get involved, or just pitch in on your own initiative.

Sumac Art Space

/img/arc/sumac-art-space.jpg Enjoy doing art but never seem to find the time? Or 'not arty' but like making things or designing tattoos?

Art Space is the opportunity to express yourself, feed your imagination and play with visual art materials in a relaxed, supportive and non-judgemental environment. Art Space focuses on enjoying the creative process rather than on learning techniques. There are no set activities so you have the freedom to explore your own creative ideas whilst being part of a group and meeting new people.

Art Materials will be provided but if you want to do anything specialized then feel free to bring your own
materials. This is a drop-in event and is open between 7-9pm.

Art Space runs on the 4th Wednesday of every month at Sumac and at Lee Rosy's Tea on 2nd Wednesdays.

Full details at Event Web Site.

Community Circle

http://inclusive-solutions.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/wall.jpg

In Nottingham we have a quiet revolution going on.

We have MakerSpaces, community focussed markets and gardens, food collectives, small shops, skills exchanges, fix-it stalls and swapshops. Alongside them we have the rise of homegrown slow food, baked bread made from organic flour from our windmill, bicycles and walking. Operating on a human scale together we are creating an earth-friendly economy and becoming the heart of healthy neighbourhood. These are direct challenges to the consumer society in its expansive earth damaging form.

NGcircle is part of this challenge. Together we demonstrate how magic can happen when we start talking, listening and trusting each other.
