Veggie Month

http://www.animalaid.org.uk/images/covers/world3.gif

Go veggie!

There are many reasons to go veggie including animal welfare, health, environmental protection and cost.

If you are concerned about one or more of these issues, why not take the opportunity to try some more meat-free meals during March or take the veggie challenge? Find support from veggie campaigners in your area from Veggies Networking Directory.

If you are already veggie... go vegan!

Time to Act Climate March

We hope you can join us in London on 7 March! Please book your ticket as soon as possible and please spread the word and share to all your networks

The People's Climate March was a defining moment for the climate movement - an estimated 40,000 in London, 400,000 in New York and many more thousands around the world show that people are not prepared for politicians to stick their head in the sand.

But we must keep the pressure up for climate action. We are taking to the streets of London to remind politicians that they have no mandate for climate-wrecking business as usual! Join blocs which together tell the story of climate change: from the causes (fossil fuels and investment in them), the consequences (for food and water, for example) and the solutions (renewable energy, climate jobs, better transport, [& vegan diet - editor]).

As over 200 went to the Climate March in Nottingham in September a coach is booked to take people from Nottingham to join this national demo at 12noon at Lincoln's Inn Fields, London WC2A 3PF

Nottingham Green Festival Planning

/wp-content/uploads/greenfestlogo.png Nottingham Green Festival on Sunday 6th September is being organised by grass roots, community based volunteers, with no statutory funding, so your support is most welcome:
  • Please come to the planning meeting on Sunday 8th March at 4pm at the Sumac Centre

  • Join the mailing list for announcements, news and information about Nottingham Green Festival. (Note: You may get a 'security certificate' warning! Fear not; this is because the list is provided by The Riseup Collective, an activist internet group that doesn't tick all the corporate boxes). You can safely click through. Honest.
  • Show support for the event by making a small donation to keep the organising group afloat, whilst the funding-raising team chase other sources of funding. You can click the button to donate with PayPal or credit/debit cards; send a cheque c/o 22 Kent Road, NG3 6BE; or transfer directly to:
“Nottingham Green Festival", Unity Trust Bank, sort code 08-60-01, a/c no 53110426
Your support will make all the difference in ensuring the success of Nottingham's own green festival, the place for the whole family to learn, explore and try the latest in everything environmentally friendly and ethical, whilst also having lots of fun in the beautiful setting of the Arboretum.

Sumac Community Food Garden

/sumac/images/survivegrowsharelearn.jpg The Sumac garden has been turned into mini community allotments! The vegetable beds are divided up in to small plots. Individuals and groups can request this space to grow fruit, vegetables, herbs, and flowers for local wildlife.

Local food production is an important part of a low carbon society. We want to encourage, support and learn about food growing in Forest Fields. Sumac's garden is organic and laid out to show the best use of a small space. It is full of ideas you could use to grow your own.

Contact fffgcmail@lists.aktivix.org if you are keen to get involved, or just pitch in on your own initiative.

Community Circle

http://inclusive-solutions.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/wall.jpg

In Nottingham we have a quiet revolution going on.

We have MakerSpaces, community focussed markets and gardens, food collectives, small shops, skills exchanges, fix-it stalls and swapshops. Alongside them we have the rise of homegrown slow food, baked bread made from organic flour from our windmill, bicycles and walking. Operating on a human scale together we are creating an earth-friendly economy and becoming the heart of healthy neighbourhood. These are direct challenges to the consumer society in its expansive earth damaging form.

NGcircle is part of this challenge. Together we demonstrate how magic can happen when we start talking, listening and trusting each other.

Animal Rescue Workday

Kirkby Pet Welfare is a small animal shelter attempting to tackle the desperate task of rescuing and re-homing unwanted rabbits, hamsters and other small rodents, often bred indiscriminately by the pet trade.

Nottingham Animal Rights seeks volunteers for regular workdays. It is really rewarding work, because we can all do a little to make a big difference. The dogs at Pet Welfare are only walked once or twice a week so this is an easy and fun job that can make a positive impact on their lives. Transport may be available from Beeston or Nottingham - call Lee on 07599 282851.

Social Centres Gathering

A gathering for people involved or interested in setting up social centres of all types, to be hosted by Next To Nowhere, Liverpool's Social Centre.

"Across Britain, political activists are buying, renting or squatting run-down, disused buildings in city centres and turning them into vibrant, volunteer-run spaces called 'social centres'. With free or cheap food, regular film and gig nights, political meeting spaces, libraries, free shops and independent media groups, social centres are rapidly becoming a key part of the anti-capitalist struggle."

World Day for Animals in Laboratories

World Day for Laboratory Animals is a United Nations recognized day of international commemoration of the suffering and killing of millions of innocent sentient beings in laboratories throughout the world.

Campaigning organisations in the UK and across the globe, will mark World Day for Laboratory Animals, a time to reflect upon the pain and suffering caused to millions of animals all in the name of a fraudulent scientific practice - a practice that is not only is so cruel to the animals so horribly abused and killed by vivisectors but a practice that so cruelly gives false hope to those with illness and disease.

In 2015 the call is for local groups to join together in organising regional demos to mark World Day.

Brinsley Animal Rescue Open Day

/img/arc/brinsleypigs.jpg Join us raising funds for animal rescue work and the animal hospital at Brinsley Animal Rescue, a not for profit organisation, run by volunteers on vegan values, dedicated to the caring of pets, wild animals and farm animals.

Come and see the animals, meet the volunteers an browse the many stalls.

The primary mission is to relieve the suffering of animals and birds. Many of the animals are simply ’surplus to requirements’ from the meat, dairy and egg industry. Because such animals are deemed unprofitable then the aim is to take them on and find them loving homes in which they can enjoy the retirement they deserve.

As well as stalls, talks and games, there is vegan beer, vegan ice cream and food by Veggies so come over, chill out and meet the animals. Find out about regular work days with Nottingham Animal Rights.

Earth First Summer Gathering

http://earthfirst.org.uk/EF!SG15poster-small.jpg The Earth First! Summer Gathering is the place where people involved in radical ecological direct action - or those who want to be involved - get together for five days of time and space to talk, walk, share skills, learn, play, rant, find out what's going on, find out what's next, live outside, strategise, hang out, incite, laugh and conspire.

The workshops, networking and planning of actions at this low impact eco-living camp is organised non-hierarchically. It's run without leaders by everyone who comes along, so come prepared to chip in!

Veggies are providing a cafe space, tuck shop & vegan cake baking workshops.

Nottingham Green Festival

/wp-content/uploads/greenfestlogo.png

Save the date: The 23rd Nottingham Green Festival is on Sunday 6th September.

The event is organised by grass roots, community based volunteers, with no statutory funding - your help would be most welcome:
  • Please come to the regular planning meetings.

You can click the button to donate with PayPal or credit/debit cards, send a cheque to the address below, or transfer directly to:
“Nottingham Green Festival", Unity Trust Bank, sort code 08-60-01, a/c no 53110426

  • Book a stall for your group, and encourage others to do so.
See contact details to request a booking form (you can also download the Green Festival Booking Info).
Your support will make all the difference in ensuring the success of Nottingham's own Green Festival, the place for the whole family to learn, explore and try the latest in everything environmentally friendly and ethical, whilst also having lots of fun in the beautiful setting of the Arboretum Park, Waverley Street / Addison Street, a couple of minutes from Nottingham's Old Market Square.

With your help, the event will have over 100 product, information and food stalls, kids rides, workshops, natural therapies and sustainable technologies, performers and entertainment throughout the park and live music from the bandstand.
