Sumac Community Food Garden Local food production is an important part of a low carbon society. We want to encourage, support and learn about food growing in Forest Fields. Sumac's garden is organic and laid out to show the best use of a small space. It is full of ideas you could use in your own garden. The garden is planted with winter veg at the moment so beds are pretty sorted, but a general tidy up would be good. Any time you can spare to help with this community resource is greatly appreciated. Just pitch in on your own initiative or contact us to check session times. |

ESOL classes for women ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes for women are held at the Sumac on Mondays. There is a great need for English classes that are free and specifically intended for women only. The classes will run for two hours a week, on Monday mornings, from 10 to 12. It is important that we have full on concentration and peace for those two hours. This means we would really appreciate not being disturbed. One special and really nice thing (that is how we feel about it, at least) with our classes is the fact that we offer child-care for their children, so we really make it a lot easier for them to be able to come. We would be very happy if anyone would like to volunteer, either as a teacher or as a child minder. Email Maja or contact via the Sumac Centre |

Community Circle It's so simple... We meet once a month at the Sumac Centre, share some food and talk to each other. Then we form a circle and introduce ourselves with an emphasis on being positive together. We are trying to allow a space for everyone to be comfortable, so if you wish to come for the first part, socialising with a bit of food and a cuppa, that runs from around 6.45. Or if you feel more comfortable coming later for the go-round of needs, wants, and offers, then that starts around 7.30. |

Now meeting at 5.30pm at the Market Square tram stop, with occasional bigger events at Nottingham Greyhound Stadium as on 26th April meeting at 6.30pm at the roundabout near the entrance.Call 07703 031667 to confirm. |

No Dash for Gas Protest Camp No Dash for Gas: 4 day camp & protest at West Burton Power Station.Last October, 21 environmental activists shut down EDF's West Burton power station for a week in protest at the government's Dash for Gas. West Burton is the first of up to 40 new gas fired power stations being planned. With your help, including a solidarity petition signed by 64,000 people - they fought off EDF's attempt to sue them for £5 million. This summer, inspired by their action, we are building a wide coalition of groups and individuals who will be coming together to Reclaim the Power. Want to be part of creating Reclaim The Power? Nottingham Green Festival Due to problems beyond their control the Nottingham Green Festival has been postponed from the previously suggested 2nd June / 26th May date. The Nottingham Green Festival will probably now be held on Sunday 1st September. The event, now in its 22nd year, is independently organised by grass routes community based volunteers, with no statutory funding. The ethical standards and environmental / human / animal rights ethos of the event are long established, having evolved from the pre-history of the Nottm Peace Festival from which it has grown. So if are able to run a fund-raiser, book a stall for your group, or encourage others to do so, that might make all the difference in ensuring the success of Nottingham's own green festival, the place for the whole family to learn, explore and try the latest in everything environmentally friendly and ethical, whilst also having lots of fun in the beautiful setting of the Arboretum Park, Waverley Street / Addison Street, |

McLibel: Human Rights Victory Anniversary In 2005 the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg declared that the infamous McLibel trial was in breach of the right to a fair trial and the right to freedom of expression, thereby voiding any solace that McNasty may have enjoyed from the trial. The Court ruled that UK laws had failed to protect the public’s right to criticise massive corporations whose business practices can affect people’s lives, health and the environment.
