Women Together - ESOL English Conversation

/wp-content/uploads/women-together-212x300.jpg Make new friends, learn new skills & practice your English!

If you are a woman in Forest Fields and would like to meet other women from your neighbourhood, come along & join us.

This group is mainly aimed at women who want to improve their English language skills, but it's open to all - doesn't matter the language you speak!

We offer different free activities, ranging from excursions and visits to craft and creative workshops.

Children are welcome at our conversation group, although we are all volunteers so unfortunately we cannot guarantee that there is an adequate number of childminders at each session (more volunteers are always welcome!).

The get together runs for two hours a week, usually on Wednesday mornings, from 10 to 12, at Sumac Centre, but some activities might happen at different locations and days, eg 29th April: Outdoor education with Wild Things Collective - meet at 9.15am - back at 3pm.

Sumac Art Space

/img/arc/sumac-art-space.jpg Enjoy doing art but never seem to find the time? Or 'not arty' but like making things or designing tattoos?

Art Space is the opportunity to express yourself, feed your imagination and play with visual art materials in a relaxed, supportive and non-judgemental environment. Art Space focuses on enjoying the creative process rather than on learning techniques. There are no set activities so you have the freedom to explore your own creative ideas whilst being part of a group and meeting new people.

Art Materials will be provided but if you want to do anything specialized then feel free to bring your own
materials. This is a drop-in event and is open between 7-9pm.

Art Space runs on the 4th Wednesday of every month at Sumac and at Lee Rosy's Tea on 2nd Wednesdays.

Full details at Event Web Site.

Animal Rescue Workday

Kirkby Pet Welfare is a small animal shelter attempting to tackle the desperate task of rescuing and re-homing unwanted rabbits, hamsters and other small rodents, often bred indiscriminately by the pet trade.

Nottingham Animal Rights seeks volunteers for regular workdays. It is really rewarding work, because we can all do a little to make a big difference. The dogs at Pet Welfare are only walked once or twice a week so this is an easy and fun job that can make a positive impact on their lives. Transport may be available from Beeston or Nottingham - call Lee on 07599 282851.

Community Circle

http://inclusive-solutions.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/wall.jpg

In Nottingham we have a quiet revolution going on.

We have MakerSpaces, community focussed markets and gardens, food collectives, small shops, skills exchanges, fix-it stalls and swapshops. Alongside them we have the rise of homegrown slow food, baked bread made from organic flour from our windmill, bicycles and walking. Operating on a human scale together we are creating an earth-friendly economy and becoming the heart of healthy neighbourhood. These are direct challenges to the consumer society in its expansive earth damaging form.

NGcircle is part of this challenge. Together we demonstrate how magic can happen when we start talking, listening and trusting each other.

McLibel: Anniversary Day of Action

/img/arc/mcdemolondon061001.jpg McLibel: Anniversary of 1997 High Court Victory!

The High Court ruled that McDonald's marketing has "pretended to a positive nutritional benefit which their food did not match"; that they "exploit children"; are "culpably responsible for animal cruelty" and "pay low wages".

The Appeal court added that it was fair comment that their employees worldwide "do badly in terms of pay and conditions", and true that "if one eats enough McDonald's food" this may well lead to "the very real risk of heart disease."

Vegan Athletes for Peace

/img/arc/vegan-athletes-for-peace.jpg Neil Robinson and Dean Howell, vegan former professional footballers, are undertaking a charity cycle challenge, cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats and to be completed in 9 days.

Stop press: due to a training injury Neil sustained in late April, and which meant missing training for almost 2 weeks, the Vegan Athletes For Peace cycle ride has been postponed until late June. The new start date will now be Friday the 26th June.

They are doing the cycle challenge to raise awareness of the benefits of a vegan lifestyle for the health of humans, animals, and the planet. Also, to raise funds for a variety of charities who are doing great work to bring about the healing of the planet and all who live on it.

Veggies are delighted to have been chosen as one of the 13 supported charities. We urge supporters to help to promote the event website and cycle ride through websites and social media.

Brinsley Animal Rescue Open Day

/img/arc/brinsleypigs.jpg Join us raising funds for animal rescue work and the animal hospital at Brinsley Animal Rescue, a not for profit organisation, run by volunteers on vegan values, dedicated to the caring of pets, wild animals and farm animals.

Come and see the animals, meet the volunteers an browse the many stalls.

The primary mission is to relieve the suffering of animals and birds. Many of the animals are simply ’surplus to requirements’ from the meat, dairy and egg industry. Because such animals are deemed unprofitable then the aim is to take them on and find them loving homes in which they can enjoy the retirement they deserve.

As well as stalls, talks and games, there is vegan beer, vegan ice cream and food by Veggies so come over, chill out and meet the animals. Find out about regular work days with Nottingham Animal Rights.

Earth First Summer Gathering

http://earthfirst.org.uk/EF!SG15poster-small.jpg The Earth First! Summer Gathering is the place where people involved in radical ecological direct action - or those who want to be involved - get together for five days of time and space to talk, walk, share skills, learn, play, rant, find out what's going on, find out what's next, live outside, strategise, hang out, incite, laugh and conspire.

The workshops, networking and planning of actions at this low impact eco-living camp is organised non-hierarchically. It's run without leaders by everyone who comes along, so come prepared to chip in!

Veggies are providing a cafe space, tuck shop & vegan cake baking workshops.

Nottingham Green Festival

NOTTINGHAM GREEN FESTIVAL IS BACK IN 2015

Year after year, a very small group of organisers has provided Nottingham with an annual day out at the Green Festival. They need our thanks, appreciation and, most of all, practical support. Because of the withdrawal of council funding (which resulted in the cancellation of last year's event), more volunteers from the community are involved in organising the Green Festival this year, bringing enough enthusiasm to ensure another great fun, educational and entertaining day. Funds need raising to pay for it.

The Green Festival is organised by grass roots, community based volunteers, with no statutory funding - your help would be most welcome:
  • Save the date: Sunday September 6th

  • Book a stall for your group, and encourage others to do so. BOOKING FORMS HERE

  • Print, display & circulate fliers & stickers. PUBLICITY MATERIALS HERE

  • Please come to the regular planning meetings.

  • Join the mailing list for announcements, news and information about Nottingham Green Festival. (Note: You may get a security certificate warning! Fear not; this is because the list is provided by The Riseup Collective, an activist internet group that doesn't tick all the corporate boxes). You can safely click through. Honest.
  • Make a donation or fundraise for the Festival. Send cheques to Nottingham Green Festival, 22 Kent Road, Nottingham NG3 6BE or transfer directly to: “Nottingham Green Festival”, Unity Trust Bank, sort code 08-60-01, a/c no 53110426; or click to donate with PayPal or credit/debit cards
Your support will make all the difference in ensuring the success of Nottingham's own Green Festival, the place for the whole family to learn, explore and try the latest in everything environmentally friendly and ethical, whilst also having lots of fun in the beautiful setting of the Nottingham Arboretum, Waverley Street, NG7+4HF, a couple of minutes from the Old Market Square.

With your help, the event will have over 100 product, information and food stalls, kids rides, workshops, natural therapies and sustainable technologies, performers and entertainment throughout the park and live music from the bandstand.

http://wwail.noflag.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/xHeader21-1024x251.jpg.pagespeed.ic.X4Oh38Em8k.jpg

World Day for Laboratory Animals is a United Nations recognized day of international commemoration of the suffering and killing of millions of innocent sentient beings in laboratories throughout the world.

Campaigning organisations in the UK and across the globe, will mark World Day for Laboratory Animals, a time to reflect upon the pain and suffering caused to millions of animals all in the name of a fraudulent scientific practice - a practice that is not only is so cruel to the animals so horribly abused and killed by vivisectors but a practice that so cruelly gives false hope to those with illness and disease.

In 2015 the call is for local groups to join together in organising regional demos to mark World Day.
