Photo Exhibition by Alan Lodge and others, following on from the recent showing of 'Operation Solstice', the acclaimed 1991 documentary about the Battle of the Beanfield, and a talk by Andy Worthington, Author of 'Stonehenge, Celebration and Subversion' on April 20th, to mark the 20th anniversary of Thatcher's notorious assault on independent alternative culture and lifestyle.Andy Worthington's book Stonehenge - Celebration and Subversion is also available from Sumac.
Operation Solstice recounts the story of how 420 people were arrested on 1 June 1985 on their way to Stonehenge to hold the 11th People's Free Festival. Using video footage, the police radio log, photographs and personal testimony to recreate what became known as the Battle of the Beanfield, this documentary presents horrifying evidence of the semi-military tactics employed by police as they smashed up travellers' homes.
