Suggest a date that you’d like to cook and ask if anyone wants to help out with menu/recipe ideas, shopping, chopping, cooking, serving, cashing up & clearing up. You’ll only need to commit to whichever of these tasks you wish to do. Others will step forward to help with the rest.

Recipes can be found on Veggies Website together with loads of guidance and advice from feeding many people for many years in many fields. Also recommended are the Anarchist Teapot Guide to Mass Catering, available online or from Veggies Book stall. People’s Kitchen Glossop do a handy guide to catering quantities and a “how to do it” guide.

On the day

Having checked in advance that you can get it this is a detailed reference to everything you need to know.

Unlock the door with the key provided, if someone will be in the room throughout, so that you won’t be distracted by visitors, (for example to the use the library, the internet or the pop-up-cafe). Note that the latch must be relocked with the key at the end of the day, or if the centre is unattended.

Turn on the emergency lighting (separate switch in lighting cupboard on stage). If needed the main panel has switches for all the individual wall & ceiling lights.

When ready to open check that door is unlocked, turn on light on the steps and in lobby (switch by door), check the safety lights and the turn on room lights (lighting cupboard on stage). Note also the separate switch for the floodlight in the yard, to make the centre more welcoming and the yard less off-putting.
