Fur Free Liverpool (FFL) was set up to inform the public about the cruelty of the fur industry and encourage shops to go fur free. In 2001 fur farming was made illegal in the UK, however fur is still imported. Many species are used by the fur industry and turned into coats, including rabbits, foxes, mink, chinchillas, dogs, cats and more. Some are trapped in the wild using steel leg hold traps that shut on the animal’s limb causing excruciating pain. Most animals are farmed for their fur, living in filthy, tiny, overcrowded cages, where they go out of their mind with stress and frustration. To ensure the fur isn’t damaged during slaughter, the animals are anally or vaginally electrocuted before being skinned. Many farms have been exposed of skinning the animals alive. Vintage fur is on the increase on the High Street. It does not matter if the animal died 20 years or 20 days ago, it still suffered and died the same way. The vintage fur trade allows new fur to hold its resale value and helps keep the fur industry alive. By wearing fur you are promoting a cruel industry and encouraging others to do the same. New or old fur is equally unacceptable! If you have seen FFL picketing a shop, please boycott that shop, they sell real fur! Even if you are not buying fur, you are giving that shop your money, which they could use to buy more fur and profit from animals suffering. Check out our website for a list of ‘High Street Heroes’ – shops that do not sell fur and ‘High Street Villains’ – shops that are selling fur. Please contact the villains to complain and tell them you are boycotting them until they issue a fur free policy!
