Hugletts mission is to create a retreat for life for those whom society overlooks - namely cows and bullocks, as well as food production animals and birds.

Hugletts Wood Farm is home to over 200 rescued farm animals and birds, each of which is special and has his or her own story of a sad past. When they come to Hugletts Wood they have the chance of a bright future.

Hugletts Wood farm is the only farm animal sanctuary in the UK that operates a dedicated Cow Protection Program. It is also the only vegan farm in the UK that runs such a sanctuary.

The many rescued farm animals who were originally destined for slaughter include recent arrivals Bunty and Rahdi. Classed as a cull ewe at market and sold to a buyer for an abattoir for one pound as she was unwell, life was not good for Bunty. Rahdi, a calf who was born without eyes was to be raised for beef. Both are safe now at Hugletts.

We try to self-fund as much as possible, growing vegetables and fruits and producing a whole range of garden products and natural Ahimsa compost but we still face weekly bills of £600 - £800 for feed and bedding for the comfort of the cows, animals and birds. There is also the inevitable cost of Homeopathic treatment and essential veterinary care, which can run into thousands of pounds a year.
