Sumac is a social venue and resource centre, for everyone concerned with global issues, animals, people and the environment, with:
- radical library and bookstall
- internet access
- club / function room
- vegan community cafe, including weekly 'People's Kitchen' meal.
- garden, practicing organic, permaculture, veganic techniques
- meeting space and hosting for gatherings
- campaign support
Sumac works independently, but in co-operation with other groups both locally and nationally, and is a member of Radical Routes and the Social Centres Network.
We receive no regular funding, but exist through the hard work of many people, all of whom are volunteers.
The Sumac Centre hosts the 'Forest Fields Social Club' (FFCS a.k.a Sumac Bar) from 7.30 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. The FFSC is a members club, but membership is easy and guests are welcome. For gigs and fundraising benefits, guests can pay at the door and members are invited to make a donation.
