The AR2008 International Animal Rights Gathering took place near the town of Jonkoping, on a campsite in a beautiful location in the Swedish countryside. The Gathering was moved from Austria due to the state repression there detailed at http://www.austriasolidarity.com/

2009 Gathering to be held in Oslo. See http://www.veggies.org.uk/event.php?ref=1475

It's now 10 years since the Animal Rights Gatherings went international. Come and celebrate the first decade of international get-togethers with around 400 activists from all across Europe and beyond. It is a time to get together and talk, to socialise and build up networks.

2008 Gathering details:

Gathering will take place this year near the town of Jonkoping in Sweden from Thursday 21st to Sunday 24th August. It will be on a campsite in a beautiful location in the Swedish countryside, next to a lake where people can take a nice bath.

The gathering will start officially in the afternoon of Thursday 21st, you can turn up in Sweden any time from the Wednesday 20th, and we can put you up in Malmö, Stockholm or Gothenburg overnight and travel to the site Thursday, or you can go directly to the site as we will be there from Wednesday afternoon preparing the site.

The gathering timetable will finish before lunch on Sunday 24th. After lunch we will have one more meeting of all the activists for general discussion and feedback about the gathering and planning next year's gathering.

For those who want to stay an extra day, we are planning some demos on Monday 25th, so we will be able to put some of the things we have learned into practice. There will be accommodation overnight where the demos will be, and a chance to visit some great vegan restaurants and shops.

How to get there;

By car or train:
You can drive or take a train or bus from mainland Europe over the Öresund Bridge which links Copenhagen in Denmark to Malmö in Sweden.

By Ferry (foot and car passengers)
To Stockholm in the east and Gothenburg in the west, these can be reached by ferry from many European ports.

By Plane
If you come by plane, the best would be to choose one of these airports:
Stockholm (Skavsta : Ryanair) or (Arlanda)
Gothenburg (Gothenburg City Airport)
Malmö (Sturup) or (Copenhagen/Kastrup Airport in Denmark, close to Malmö)

There have been several Swedish animal rights gatherings at this site before. There are 4 toilets and a few showers at the site. There is one main building, as well as some other buildings where workshops can be held.

If people want to arrive early or stay a few extra days, we can most likely arrange somewhere to stay in Stockholm, Gothenburg or Malmö, depending on numbers. We will do our best to find somewhere for everyone to stay. There will most likely be a demonstration on the monday after the gathering in Malmö and Stockholm. There are also the most amazing vegan restaurants and cafés in Malmö and Stockholm, another good reason to stay behind or come in early.
