The McLibel Campaign celebrated the culmination of 20 years of community based resistance to the McCorporate world, with an evening of entertainment, public debate, showing of the 'McLibel' documentary, food by Veggies - and the world premiere of the new McLibel DVD, at Conway Hall, Red Lion Square, London.

Whilst campaigners celebrated 20 years of world-wide anti-McDonald's campaigning, the global corporation admitted it will not be running any 'commercial campaign' to mark its half-century!

Following last month's victory at the European Court of Human Rights, a brand new McLibel feature documentary saw its Worldwide Release on the very day McDonald's fails to celebrate its 50th birthday, following its release on TV and in the cinema.

The New DVD features more than five hours of extras, including a commentary track of all McDonald's greatest quotes from the last 50 years, voiced by comedian Rob Newman.

This is the inside story of the postman and the gardener who took on McDonalds in England's longest ever court case. Shot over three years by a voluntary crew including Ken Loach (who directed the courtroom reconstructions), the documentary hit the headlines after it was pulled by lawyers at both the BBC and Channel 4 in the UK. Now for the first time see what happened next with Helen and Dave as they travel to Strasbourg for their historic appearance at the European Courts of Human Rights. They argued that the whole trial was unjust as there was no jury and no legal aid. Since the original verdict in 1997, they've also won further points in the Appeal and sued the Metropolitan Police for releasing information to McDonalds. This new updated docufilm will reveal all.

McDonalds in 'nothing to celebrate' shocker

In an e-mail Thursday evening, McDonald's spokeswoman Lisa Howard dropped a bombshell about what we assumed would be a momentous ad campaign spotlighting McDonald's 50th anniversary, which officially is Friday.

"There is no 'commercial' campaign associated with the 50th anniversary," was the brief, blunt answer.

Korean Activists Campaign Against McDonald's

Protesters hold a rally to oppose the consumption of fast food in central Seoul, Thursday. They discouraged people from eating fast food, which they say is unhealthy, one day before the 50th anniversary of the establishment of popular fast food chain McDonald's.

McDonald's, the world's largest fast food chain, which celebrated its 50th birthday yesterday, has faced as much criticism as it has fame.

Activists against fast food have staged campaigns to denounce the 'junk food' maker, saying McDonald's food, the symbol of fast food, is harmful to people's health. The protests of Koreans are not the exception in the worldwide anti-fast food movement.

A civic group, Citizens' Movement for Environmental Justice (CMEJ), held a campaign Thursday in Taehangno, Seoul, to alert people to the 50 years of damages McDonald's has caused to people and the environment.

The group had promoted a project, dubbed the Korean version of ``Super Size Me'' last November, in which one of its activists, Yoon Kwang-yong, consumed only fast food for about a month and showed his health decline.
