Veggies foods and drinks, all vegan, locally sourced, fairly traded and/or with organically grown ingredients, mostly hand-made on-site.

Veggies Catering Campaign has been at every Glastonbury since the early 90's, a regular fixture at the heart of the Green Futures Fields. As part of an active grass roots campaign network, working throughout the year in support of many other Green Futures participants, we feel that we are an integral part of the Green Futures experience.

Many consider Veggies to be one of the most ethical caterers on the circuit, with policies developed from 25 years experience in organic / fair trade / pure vegetarian catering. We have been shortlisted in the Green Trading Standards scheme at previous Glastonburys and are 3-times winners of the 'Best Vegan Caterer' Awards

Fair traded fruit juices are used and fresh locally sourced &/or organic vegetables, along with wholemeal bread (often locally baked with organic flour stoneground at Nottingham's Greens Windmill). In 25 years we have never used any other than fair trade teas and coffees. All our products are made from natural ingredients, our own burger mixes being handmade from organic ingredients on our own premises.

Whenever possible Veggies feature the publications of the Movement for Compassionate Living, which we print and distribute to promote simple living and vegan self-reliance as a remedy to the exploitation of humans, animals and the Earth. We also support our nominated charity, Vegfam, ‘Feeding the hungry without exploiting animals’.

In addition to all the above, Veggies at Glastonbury also features a popular 'free information exchange', bookstall and informal workshop space. In recent years as much crew effort has gone into the information and campaign aspects of the operation as the actual trading. We find that our hard cash turnover struggles to keep up with the increasing costs and we find we are no longer raising the vital contribution to ongoing campaign funding. However we value the networking opportunities and feel that other participants value the service that we provide.

2013 Application info

3: Have you traded at Glastonbury before? If so, which years and any pitch reference information.

Veggies been at Glastonbury Green Futures Field since 1990, combining pure vegetarian / organic / fair trade catering with campaign outreach on behalf of the many groups with whom we work.

4: Have you traded at any other festivals in the past 2 years? If so, please give details.

Glastonbury is the only 'commercial' Festival at which we cater, our specialisation being to provide catering for many campaign events and gatherings, including the Peace News Summer Camp, the Earth First Gathering, the Animal Rights Gathering and up to 70 other campaign / community events throughout the year.

5: Please provide any other additional supporting information.

Veggies in primarily a campaign group, using it's catering work to give practical support for many groups working for human, environmental and animal rights, as well as peace and social justice worldwide. Our work funds the Sumac Centre, an independent community resource centre supporting groups and individuals sharing our values in Nottingham and throughout the UK.

Subject to discussion with the Green Futures team we would like to evolve our space this year to include an marquee-based on-site bakery & coffee bar / cafe space, to accommodate our catering trailer providing hot foods and drinks. We feel that this will help us to achieve our primary objective, which is to provide visitors with 'information for action' to get involved with the many campaigns that we support.

6: Please let us know about your stall and the range and standard of your food. Include as much information as possible. We are looking for creative innovative and unique stalls.

Veggies promotes the use of fair trade products and organic ingredients where affordable. We use minimal packaging and returnable mugs. We are three times winners of the Best Vegan Catering Award, and in 2011 received the Glastonbury Green Trader Greenpeace Award.

To get to this event 167 miles from our home base at Nottingham's Sumac Centre, (and back), Veggies will emit 200kg CO2.

However by helping 3000 people Eat Vegan we will “offset” 6,000kg CO2

If ONE customer goes Vegan For Life, they will save 1.5 tonnes CO2 every year, as well as saving 4022 animals' lives, and enabling all the world’s peoples to receive a Fair Share of the world’s resources. See
