Poetry against Borders is a fundraising/awareness-raising event to support the ongoing No Borders/Calais Migrant Solidarity projects.

There are several hundred migrants in Calais at anyone time, most without proper housing, travel documents or access to healthcare. Most have fled home countries ravaged by war and poverty. CMS aims to support these people in practical ways on the ground by providing equpiment, tools and food essential for day-to-day living and to document any ill-treatment of migrants by police or other government agencies.

This event aims to explore issues of migration/freedom of movement through the medium of poetry and the meeting of minds.

Poetry against Borders will commence with Peoples Kitchen, a weekly communal meal, prepared especially this week by supporters and participants of CMS.

Poetry on the night will be performed by some of Nottinghams most vibrant wordsmiths. It's set to be an inspiring evening and one that will hopefully continue an ongoing poetical exploration through these very important issues.

sumac centreThe Sumac Centre is an independent community and social centre in Nottingham, part of the UK Social Centre Network and Radical Routes.

On Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, the Centre becomes the Forest Fields Social Club (FFCS a.k.a Sumac Bar) from 7.30. The FFSC is a members club, but membership is easy and guests are welcome. For gigs and fundraising benefits, guests can pay at the door and members are invited to make a donation.
