The speaker I am trying to arrange and coordinate talks for is Jerry Friedman, the vegan from California who has a lawsuit against his former employer for discrimination. His case is of interest to many activists and ordinary people, because it touches on not only veganism, but also vaccination choice concerns, civil liberties and discrimination issues. Legal-minded people are likely to be interested especially. Here are the relevant websites, in case you are not familiar with his case http://www.bestlawyer.com/pr05.htm And for the case in more legal detail, http://www.bestlawyer.com/vegancomplaint.htm The civil liberties and human justice and equality side of being a vegan has interested me personally for some time, since I have heard of various situations of anti-vegan discrimination in the UK (such as the milk tokens issue, and ourselves being struck off by our doctor for vaccine refusal, which was in part on vegan grounds) and the US, and because of my own personal experience of workplace bullying and demotion during the mid 1980's which I believe was related to me being vegan, rather than because I was bad at the job. Jerry is hoping to come over to the UK for between a week and three weeks during May, including possibly the beginning of June, and while this is not definitely arranged yet, I would like to know early on whether you would be interested in arranging a meeting and having him to speak, and if not how soon in advance would this need to be confirmed if you were interested in having Jerry to talk. He is now a law student as well as a computer programmer, and has been interviewed already for Satya magazine in the US, as well as appearing on TV and radio, and addressing a group of law-minded people at the University of California in L.A. I think he will be a very interesting speaker to have. The other thing is that he will need a place to stay and we only have a tiny flat with barely room to swing a carrot, not at all ideal, so if anyone is be willing to help with accommodation or transport or any other aspect of arranging meetings, or has any further suggestions of groups and people for me to contact, please let me know. Yours for human and animal rights, Lesley Dove <100706.3632@compuserve.com>
