Young Greens at Shut Down Yarl’s Wood #PeopleNotNumbers

Young Greens are supporting the Movement for Justice demonstration to surround Yarl’s Wood Immigration Detention Centre on the 18th November 2017 (note revised date).

This follows our attendance at the last demonstration in May 2017 in collaboration with our #PeopleNotNumbers campaign. Open to all Greens, Young and Old – please share and invite anyone who may be interested.

Time to build the Twelfth demonstration at Yarl’s Wood – lets shut down this racist, sexist hellhole once and for all!
#ShutDownYarlsWood
#EndDetentionNow

In Yarl’s Wood 400+ women are indefinitely detained, most of whom have experienced rape, domestic violence, torture, forced marriage, sexual abuse, FGM, persecution due to sexuality. Many of whom have long and deep connections to the UK, have been here most of their lives, have all their family and friends here. Many have children; some are pregnant, elderly, disabled, sick and have mental health difficulties.

Yarl’s Wood has been exposed time after time in undercover investigations, government reports, inspectorate reports, and inquiry findings for sexual abuse/harassment by guards towards the women. Undercover footage by Channel 4 news showed the brutal, racist attitude of the guards.

This is part of our Young Greens #PeopleNotNumbers campaign. We aim to explore the different conceptions that people have about freedom of movement, and its importance in an increasingly changing world. We want to listen to refugees and migrants and empower them to protect and promote their human rights. And finally, we want to transform the attitudes of politicians, encouraging them to recognise migrants and refugees as real people with real stories, and not a simple statistic.

The Young Greens are advocating booking onto one of Movement for Justice’s coaches. They will be arranged from all areas of the country and can be easily booked by keeping an eye on Movement for Justice By Any Means Necessary’s event page here: https://www.facebook.com/events/262159867623100/

Once you have booked onto a coach, please email Hannah Graham at hannahg@younggreens.org.uk to let us know you are attending.

Croydon All Out to Stop the Fascists!

All OUT to Stop the Fascist South East Alliance demonstrating on 6th May in Croydon.

SHUT DOWN the Racist, Fascist South East Alliance!

SHUT DOWN Croydon until the Fascists are driven off our streets and out of our community.

A group of organised Fascist thugs, the South-East Alliance, is planning to demonstrate in Croydon on Saturday 6th May, outside Lunar House, the Home Office reporting centre. This will be just a month from the violent attack by a 20 to 30-strong racist gang in Croydon, in which 17-year old Kurdish asylum seeker Reker Ahmed was savagely beaten and two of his Kurdish refugee friend were injured.

There is only one message to take from the Fascists’ plan to demonstrate in Croydon only a month after the attempted murder of Reker Ahmed; they are celebrating the attack, claiming political responsibility for it, and they want to encourage and carry out more brutal racist attacks on our streets. They want to spread fear in immigrant, refugee and Muslim communities, scare black, Asian. Muslim & immigrant communities from coming into central Croydon that day. They are seeking to build on the racism and anti Immigrant bigotry of Brexit and build a racist/fascist street movement.

They have advertised their demonstration as an ‘anti immigration demo’ stating that “The UK is Not a Dumping Ground for the third world! You Are Not Welcome Here” & “Defend your heritage”. This is an explicit threat – their presence poses a very direct threat of further physical attacks, we must defend ourselves and our community.

There is only one response. The community must come out in force, fill the streets that day, Shut Them Down. End their attempt to embolden and encourage racist attacks on our streets.

(more info and exact times will be posted closer to the day, but prepare to be out on the streets early and for as long as it takes)

BENEFIT ORGANISATIONS:

The first organisation that we have chosen is the FREE WEST PAPUA CAMPAIGN. A great organisation run by good people raising funds and awareness in solidarity with the people of West Papua. For full information see here: http://www.freewestpapua.org

The second organisation that we have chosen is SOCIAL WORKERS WITHOUT BORDERS. We have chosen these because we are the the midst of a humanitarian crisis with thousands of displaced people scattered across Europe. While there is aid on the ground, it needs to go further than that, and SWWB fill this gap for us taking on the further help giving direct support and help with everything from documentation, education, family support and more. Check them out, a great organisation and much needed in our opinion: http://www.socialworkerswithoutborders.org

The other organisations will be chosen over the coming months.

Stand Up To Trump: Protest T.B.C

Provisional dates: 5th – 8th October 2017.
Protest called by Stand Up to Trump

Supporting groups include:

  • Stand Up to Racism
  • Stop the War Coalition
  • People’s Assembly Against Austerity
  • CND

Theresa May and Donald Trump have just announced Trump will be visiting the UK later this year

When the date is announced, we will be organising protests to oppose Trump’s racism, sexism and bigotry.

The invitation to Donald Trump for a state visit will be opposed by millions in Britain. Our government should not be seen to be endorsing the sorts of ideas and policies he is putting forward. We are committed, along with other campaigning organisations including Stop the War, Peoples Assembly against Austerity and CND , to oppose this visit and to organise mass protests if it takes place.

Join our protest to tell Trump his racism and bigotry isn’t welcome in the UK

Reclaim the Power Action Camp

Reclaim the Power (RTP), the UK-based direct action network, are back this summer with an action camp: Power Beyond Borders.

It takes place in the South East of England from the 26-30 July. For the past few years RTP has been best known for its anti-fracking activism, particularly targeting Cuadrilla’s Preston New Road site in Lancashire.

Fracking in the UK looks to have been stopped before it got started. That’s why RTP is expanding its focus. Power Beyond Borders will target both new gas infrastructure and the Tory government’s hostile environment policy, says The Ecologist.

The  mass action camp will equip you to get involved in a way that works for you.

The camp will be at a secret location in the South East of England, within reach of London. We will let you know exactly where nearer the time.

It is family-friendly with a kids space with activities, toys, books and games for children.

To find out more see our website, follow us on Twitter, Facebook and instagram (@reclaimthepower), or contact powerbeyondborders@protonmail.com
