Act On Plastic – Plastic Free Month
Sun 1st July, 2018 @ 00:00 - 12:00

July is Plastic Free Month and we’re going to kick it off by getting active about plastic.
Each year an estimated 300 million tonnes of plastic are produced globally.
Our planet is struggling. Plastic is killing our wildlife, it is in our water, our salt and our food.
Six of the major supermarkets in the UK have refused to disclose the amount of plastic they put on the market citing such information as “commercially sensitive”.
Thus far plastic reduction promises have been piecemeal and the plastic tide continues.
I’m calling on every individual that cares for this planet and every living organism on it to take coordinated action. Enough is enough.
The plan is simple, in large groups do your usual weekly shop at one of the six supermarkets that refused to disclose information about how much plastic they put on the market (see list below). Once through the checkout, gather at the agreed unwrapping point for your group and collectively remove ALL plastic packaging from your purchases. Bring jars, cloth bags, reusable containers with you to put products into instead.
If you are already zero waste or plastic free please hold signs, hand out educational materials, take photos and footage or get on a megaphone and read out some plastic pollution statistics. We need as many people acting as possible 💚
Contact me if you want to lead an event near you.
We want supermarkets to know that we are done. We want to buy the food, not the packaging. If they insist on wrapping so much food in plastic then they are creating the problem and they need to deal with it’s disposal. The consumer has no power if there is no option.
Let’s get organised and shake things up!
