Cowley Club’s 15th birthday! A night of DIY, lo-fi folk punk
Sun 28th January, 2018 @ 19:30 - 23:00
It was 15 years ago the Cowley Club first opened its doors. Set up by a group of local activists, it followed a series of squatted cafes along London Road that operated under the name of the Anarchist Teapot.
15 years is an amazing length of time for a members’ club so we’re celebrating the landmark with a night of lo-fi folk punk. On the bill are:
POG
A blistering mix of orchestral flourishes and folk punk roots. The first time we played at the Cowley Club was in 2002, about 3 months after it opened so it’s lovely to be taking part in this event.

JIMMY AND THE WORN OUT SHOES
Egg and chips pound shop pop that will make your mouth smile and your heart do little skips and hops. Comes somewhere between Jonathan Richman, the TV Personalities and of course the Blue Minkies, who half of the band used to be in.

CHUCK SJ HAY
Folk punk that is inventive, unique, brutally honest and utterly brilliant. Every time we see Chuck they manage the impossible by being even more splendid than the time before.

SUBURBAN DEATH TWITCH
Melodic and acerbic cello and piano-led indie pop that recalls the best of Sarah and WIAIWYA Records, but with a much better sense of humour. Just wonderful:
