Ecological autonomy and popular defense in Mexico
Thu 22nd March, 2018 @ 18:00 - 19:30

How can alternative forms of organizing create flexible and resilient approaches for those engaged resistance struggles? This talk addresses this question by exploring autonomous struggles against large-scale wind energy development and advocates the development of practices of ecological autonomy and self-defense in Mexico. In Álvaro Obregón and Gui’Xhi’Ro in Zapotec, resistance to large-scale wind energy development has involved new ways of organizing that challenge traditional, and often European and colonial, forms of activism and resistance. These include developing experimental kinship as well as decentralized, anti-organizational and affinity-based approaches. By presenting this case, we hope to open space for discussion and debate around alternative and anti-colonial forms of organizing for resisting political control and ecological destruction.
The talk and discussion are followed by the regular delicious vegan Thursday dinner at 7.30pm, 5 pounds. Everyone welcome, love and rage!
