Charity Book Sale Weekends 2017
Ten years of selling Second-Hand books and wearing masks!
In aid of local charities: Nottingham & Notts Refugee Forum’s Destitution Fund & School for Parents.
Fri April 28th; Sat April 29th; Sun April 30th; Mon May 1st; and Fri May 5th; Sat May 6th; Sun May 7th. 10am – 6pm each day open.
Low prices, starting at 10p.
ExLibris rescues books that might otherwise be thrown away, and sells them at affordable prices to raise funds for charities and good causes. And we wear masks.
Books are donated or rescued from many sources – we have even intercepted some as they were being thrown into a skip. They are sold at stalls at events and festivals around Nottingham, but once a year the entire stock is put on sale at our home in Carlton/Gedling. They are displayed in the garden, in the front porch, in the back porch, in the garage, in the purpose-built shed, in the boot of our car, under cold frames and in a specially-bought toilet tent – anywhere that we can find.
In accordance with the principles of the Federation of Masked Booksellers, prices are kept low so that the books are available to all, and proceeds are donated to good causes. And the booksellers (all volunteers) wear masks.
Celebrate the 11th magical appearance of Gedling’s only second hand bookshop, and the fact that ExLibris has raised over £10,000 for good causes since it started.
Since the last sale, hardly a week has gone by without a quality donation. Our rescued, low-priced books include: books for children and adults; new, genre, unusual, modern and classic fiction; every non-fiction subject under the sun; local interest; books on leisure pursuits such as gardening, crafts and cookery; history, politics, travel, trains, science, biography, arts & more; books in other languages; hardbacks and paperbacks; books that used to belong to Nottingham writer and broadcaster Ray Gosling; superhero comics, music scores and maps; collectable books at much lower prices than online, and the odd really weird book that you wouldn’t believe could or should exist.
Refreshments, including drinks and yummy home-made cakes, available in “Josiah’s” for a donation. You may decorate the garden path with coloured chalks. And if you bring & donate a tin of vegetarian food, it will be passed on to local food banks.
