The Boy With the Perpetual Nervousness recounts with courage and candour how, in the 1970s, as the clever, awkward, nerdy, only child of devoutly Catholic parents in Accrington, Lancashire, the author was groomed by a priest at his local grammar school. This is a memoir of working class life, of betrayal, and the effects of that betrayal.
