Welcome to Rhiannon and Andy’s handfasting page!
As we are getting closer to the big date we’ll add more useful info to this page. Here are the travel directions for starters.
WHERE?
The festivities will take place in the grounds of Crabapple Community at Berrington Hall, near the village of Berrington. It is around 5 miles south east of Shrewsbury in Shropshire.
The address is: Berrington Hall, Berrington, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, SY5 6HA
The grid reference is SJ525075
Here is a link to a Note that the arrow should be on the other side of the road! But it’s roughly right!
We will endeavour to put up signs from the A458 so look out for “R and A!” arrows.
BY BUS AND TRAIN
If coming from a long distance it can sometimes be cheaper to get a ticket to a large station such as Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Manchester or Crewe and then a separate ticket on to Shrewsbury. Check national rail for train times and prices. If coming from the London direction, it’s generally cheaper to buy a Super Offpeak Return, specifying “London Midland & Arriva only”.
When you arrive at Shrewsbury train station, ask someone to point you to the bus station. It’s only a few minutes walk from the train station. The bus service that runs from town to within a mile of Crabapple is the 436 towards Bridgnorth. It runs every hour from 7.40am to 5.40pm with a “late” one at 7.40pm. The journey to Cross Houses is approx 15 mins. You will need to press the stop button when you see the sign for Cross Houses. Some of the services on this route are low-floor accessible buses. Please note that the last bus leaves Shrewsbury at 7.40pm, Monday to Saturday and there are no Sunday bus services. For the bus timetable see HERE.
The site itself is about 1 mile from the bus stop. From the bus stop at Cross Houses, walk back towards Shrewsbury past the petrol station (on your right) and take the first left turn signed “Berrington”. After about ½ mile, the road forks at the edge of the village. Take the right turn signposted “Betton Abbots” and we’re about ¼ mile up the road on the right.
We would like to offer a pick-up service from the bus stop for those who need it – if anyone is up for taking on that role that would be grand (get in touch!). Watch this space.
BY TAXI
There is also a taxi rank just outside Shrewsbury train station. Accessible taxis can be got from here. However, it is MUCH cheaper to book a cab from a local company – Comet Cabs 01743 344444, or Vincent Cabs 01743 367777. Vincents also have a booking office just across the road from the station, which is handy if you don’t have a phone to book a cab in advance.
BY BIKE
Nearest train station is Shrewsbury. in!). Basically you would have to come through the town or South along the river bank to “English Bridge”. Go over the river on English Bridge and follow the road straight for approx 1 mile to “Column Roundabout”. This is a roundabout with a great big Column next to it where the Shropshire Council offices are situated. Take the 3rd exit signposted A458 Bridgenorth and Much Wenlock and follow that out of Surburbia into the countryside. After the next roundabout go straight on and over the A5 Dual carriageway. Take a right turn immediately after the bridge over the A5 signposted “Betton Strange” Follow the road for a few miles without turning off until you see a left turn for “Berrington”. Take this and then go straight on at the little crossroads you come to and we are the second driveway on your left after approx ¼ mile.
BY CAR
Come off the A5 (whichever direction) when you see signs for A458 Bridgenorth, Much Wenlock, Cross Houses. This is the first roundabout after the A49 / A5 roundabout coming from the East / M54. Follow the A458 for about 4 miles to the first little crossroads and take a right turn signposted “Condover”. At the first crossroads take a left signposted “Berrington”. We are the second driveway on your left after approx ¼ mile.
If you are coming towards Shrewsbury on the A458 take the first left after the Petrol Station in Cross Houses signposted “Berrington”. After about ½ mile the road forks at the edge of the village take the right turn signposted “Betton …” and we’re about ¼ mile up the road on the right.
FACILITIES
Loads of space for camping and we’ll have a quiet camping area etc. There are several “Tree bogs” (compost toilets!) which have steps up to them.
There is a shop and pub at Cross Houses about 1 mile away.
DOGS
Please aim to leave these in the care of a friend or relative but if you are not in a position to do this please give us advance notice and you’ll have to keep them on a lead while you’re there/
