Seed Swaps like the Seedy Saturday are a great networking event for growers , if you have an allotment, are a  gardener, have a your own land or are just starting out with pots and window boxes.

Sharon Rempel organised the first Seedy Saturday event in 1990 at VanDusen Botanical Gardens in Vancouver, Canada.

This viral idea has spread around the world. With many towns and cities hosting their own events and celebrating seeds and the stories they carry, promoting local biodiversity and increasing food security. The primary issue that seed sovereignty seeks to address is the ownership of seeds,  a large majority of seeds are becoming property of several major agricultural/seed corporations.

SEEDY SATURDAY/ SUNDAYS champion the grower and seed saver, they help to build networks, local, national and international, and directly strengthen the diversity and availability of resilient nutritional seeds, which makes for a better world.

Earth First Summer Gathering 2025

The Earth First! Summer Gathering is the place where people involved in radical ecological direct action – or those who want to be involved – get together for five days of time and space to talk, walk, share skills, learn, play, rant, find out what’s going on, find out what’s next, live outside, strategise, hang out, incite, laugh and conspire.

The workshops, networking and planning of actions at this low impact eco-living camp is organised non-hierarchically. It’s run without leaders by everyone who comes along, so come prepared to chip in.

Spread the word, share the post from Mastodon:

Save the date! The 2025 Earth First Summer Gathering will be 7 – 11 August. Location tbc. The gathering is a time to come together to celebrate our movement and build radical ecological resistance in these isles. Never been to an EF gathering? No problem, new comers are very welcome. Join us for workshops, music, discussion and connecting to like-minded people fighting for social and ecological revolution.

Details will be at earthfirst.uk after the Earth First Winter Moot 14-17th February 2025

Veggies Catering Campaign provides pure vegan catering for many campaign events, as well as festival, fairs & markets, and family celebrations.

The menu includes our own burgers, handmade at our Sumac Centre base from organic ingredients. We also have samosas, our own sausage rolls and vegan cakes. Cakes are made by us with organic ingredients, including flour from Nottingham’s Greens Mill.

Many consider Veggies to be one of the most ethical caterers on the circuit. we have over 37 years of experience in award-winning vegan / fair trade / organic catering.

To get to this event, 20 miles from our Sumac Centre base, Veggies may emit approx 5kg CO2.

However by helping 250 people Eat Vegan we could “offset” 500 kg CO2.

If ONE customer goes Vegan For Life they will save 1.5 tonnes CO2 every year, as well as saving 4022 animals lives, and enabling all the world’s peoples to receive a Fair Share of the world’s resources. [carbon calculation references]

Sunday 11th 2003 : Reverend Billy’s Sunday Service

From Veggies Archive

The possibly insane but indisputably sublime Reverend Billy brought his war on consumerism from New York city to Nottingham. Mixing art with activism, and activism with entertainment the Reverend performed one of his comic ‘services’ at Broadway, appropriately enough, since the building was originally a chapel.

During the service, Reverend Billy conferred ‘sainthood’ in the Church of No Shopping on Veggies’ Co-operative members Pat & Ronny.
