Don’t put Britain on the nuclear front line: day of action – Lakenheath base

No US nukes in Britain – Make Lakenheath a nuclear-free zone!

Join peace activists from CND (Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament)  and other campaign groups at RAF Lakenheath, protesting against US plans to base deadly nuclear bombs at the base. This would put Britain on the nuclear frontline. The threat of nuclear weapons being used again in war is growing. But so is public opposition! Join the protest, learn more about what’s going on at this base and help build our campaign to stop nuclear bombs coming back to Lakenheath!

Time: Midday to 2pm (followed by peace picnic if weather holds!)
Place: Lakenheath Main Gate (Gate 1), Brandon Road, Brandon IP27 9PN
Nearest station: Brandon – 15 minutes’ drive by taxi

Stop the Arms Fair 2023

The Defence & Security Equipment International arms fair (DSEI) sells everything from bullets to battleships, bringing together 1500 arms companies and representatives from over 100 countries. The results of DSEI are felt around the world as people are killed, economies are devastated, refugees are traumatised and peaceful protest is crushed.

When the world’s arms industry arrives in London in September, Stop the Arms Fair coalition will do all we can to stand in its way.

Join us at ExCeL Centre West, near The Crystal, Seagull Lane (DLR: Royal Victoria)

Veggies Food is HereVeggies hopes to provide campaign catering at the Day of Action

Court Solidarity Demonstrations

Join us outside Stratford Magistrates Court to support the defendants at their plea hearings at the following times:

21-23rd February 2018
7-8th March 2018
11-12th April, 2018
18th April, 2018

**DID YOU WITNESS AN ARREST OR POLICE VIOLENCE AT THE STOP THE ARMS FAIR PROTESTS?**

WE NEED YOUR WITNESS STATEMENTS!

The sooner you can send in an account and any photos/video of arrests to Green and Black Cross (GBC), the better. Key information to include for a witness statement is:

– When, where, who
– What else was happening on site? E.g. was the road closed by
police, were other people/actions blocking the road?
– Any photos or videos of arrests or immediately before/after

Saudi Prince Not Welcome – protest Mohammad bin Salman visit

#SaudiPrinceNotWelcome

Theresa May has invited the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman to visit Britain. Bin Salman is the second most senior member of the Saudi regime. He currently oversees the bombing of Yemen, which has caused what the UN has called “the worst humanitarian crisis in the world”. The Saudi regime has supported repression in Bahrain, imposed a blockade on Qatar, and detained the Lebanese Prime Minister.

Join us at Downing Street to tell May and bin Salman that he is not welcome in London!

We don’t yet know the date: it will be confirmed as soon as we hear.

WATCH THIS SPACE: Our petition will soon go live!

*
More information:

Bin Salman is the second most senior member of the Saudi regime, which has one of the worst human rights records in the world. Torture, arbitrary detention, and other appalling abuses are widely documented. In 2017 alone, Saudi authorities executed over 100 people.

The Crown Prince has overseen the war on Yemen, creating tens of thousands of deaths and injuries. He has created, in the words of the UN, “the worst humanitarian crisis in the world”. British made jets and bombs have played a major role in destroying civilian targets and the poor nation’s infrastructure. UK personnel, from the armed forces and BAE Systems, are present in the Saudi operations centre, aiding this catastrophe.

The Saudi regime has also supported repression in other states, notably Bahrain where its military supported the crackdown on peaceful protestors in 2011. Recently, the Crown Prince has established a blockade of Qatar, and held the prime minister of Lebanon in custody. Both of these latter acts were failed attempts to impose regime change on sovereign nations.

It shames us as a nation to support and associate with a brutal dictator who uses hunger as a weapon, and has allowed the largest cholera epidemic in history to develop in Yemen. The interests of the people of Britain, and the peoples suffering from the Crown Prince’s adventurism, are not served by this visit. The invitation must be withdrawn.

While the government has confirmed Bin Salman’s visit, we don’t yet know the date, so we will update this page as soon as we hear.

Conference at the Gates: Academics Against the Arms Fair

This September, arms dealers from around the world will congregate in London’s ExCeL Centre for the DSEi arms fair. As one of the world’s largest arms fairs, DSEi brings together over 1,500 arms companies and military delegations from over 100 countries. On display will be everything from crowd control equipment to machine guns, tanks, drones and even battleships. It is a crucial event in the business of the international arms trade, and the deals done here play a major role in reinforcing Western militarism, fuelling conflict, repressing dissent and strengthening authoritarian regimes across the world. The Stop the Arms Fair coalition have called a week of action at the venue to disrupt the setup of the arms fair.

Building on the successes of Conference at the Gates 2015, on Friday 8th September there will be an open air conference-action at the gates of the ExCel centre. The aim is to build networks of solidarity in opposition to the arms trade, to explore forms of academic practice that don’t stop at the university walls, and to directly disrupt the setup of the arms fair. Blurring lines between theory and practice, academics from a range of disciplines will gather at this event to explore issues and ideas relating to contemporary militarism and global politics. In addition to papers and presentations, there will be interactive workshops, performances, and creative activities exploring themes including the militarisation of police and security forces, contemporary imperialism and colonialism, the gendered politics of conflict and militarism, the militarisation of education, militarism and popular culture, and the purpose of radical theory.
