Stop New Nuclear – Surround Springfields

Why Here? The worlds first nuclear fuel manufacturing plant, based in a small village near Preston, carries out civil and military nuclear contracts for facilities across the UK:

  • Production of nuclear fuel
  • Storage and processing of waste (including Uranium Hexafluoride DUF6)
  • Decommissioning of plant and facilities

Through the gates of the Springfields plant pass a deadly cargo of materials which have fuelled nuclear bombs, nuclear reactors and nuclear accidents for over 70 years. These materials pose a radiological and chemical threat to human health and to the environment.

Why Now? The Government is still pressing forward with its policy of new nuclear power, despite delays, spiralling costs and even bankruptcy of the major players. Springfields would play a pivotal role in supplying these and processing the waste material. The hunt for a Geological Disposal Facility (long term radioactive waste dump) is back on nationwide, with communities in Cumbria being targetted to ‘volunteer’ their back yard for this short sighted ‘solution’ to an intractable problem.

Radioactive material is transported to and from this site nationally and internationally via road and rail. We are inviting you to take this same journey to join us in the dirty core of the UK nuclear industry for a day of protest, information sharing and solidarity. We plan to surround the site with people dressed as nuclear waste barrels – a record breaking attempt!

Earth First! Winter Moot 2019

Earth First Moot 2019 posterA weekend of campaign updates, networking, planning, solidarity and socialising at Halton Mill, Lancaster, in solidarity with Lancashire anti-fracking – join the ecological resistance.

You are invited to attend the Earth First! Winter Moot, a gathering for people involved or wanting to know more about ecological campaigning and direct action in the UK.

Earth First! is a banner for independent groups who share a common need to protect our ecological systems. We believe in non-hierarchical direct action, to stop and reverse the forces responsible for the destruction of the earth and its inhabitants.

Those taking their first steps into ecological campaigning are warmly welcomed. There will be debates, discussions on campaign planning, updates, support and solidarity, tactics, strategies, community building, sustainable activism and networking including groups campaigning against fracking, incineration, new roads, GM (genetic engineering), animal exploitation and much more.

Cost scale: £25/30. This includes full vegan meals and accommodation. But no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Arrive Friday evening (from 6pm) for evening meal, leave Sunday (ends by 4pm). It will be an indoor floor sleeping space so bring a warm sleeping bag and mat too …

Halton Mill, Hill Lane, Halton, Lancaster, LA2 6ND is 3 miles (1 hours walk) up the River Lune from Lancaster railway station but 49 bus goes to Halton (last bus 7pm). See Getting to Halton Mill for details.

Block Around the Clock: Mass camp and action

“If you like it then you shouldn’t put a rig on it.” – Beyoncé

This summer we’re stepping up the disruption with a BLOCK AROUND THE CLOCK, as part of our mass action camp against fracking. Come and join us as we return to Preston New Road near Blackpool to stop Cuadrilla’s dastardly fracking plans once again.

Weds 27 June to Sunday 1 July
Get the dates in your diary, more details to follow soon!

Time and again, local communities have shown the shale gas industry it has no social license to frack in the UK. But the Conservatives are continuing their plan to force this dirty drilling on communities. With a long winter behind us and fracking proposed to start soon at Preston New Road, it is now more important than ever to show the locals of Lancashire that we stand with them.

This Reclaim the Power mass action and camp is part of the United Resistance, a bold 3 months of action organised by Lancashire locals. They are calling on anti-frackers from across the country to join them and take action, with at least one action per week planned between April and June. For more information check: https://www.facebook.com/UnitedResistanceUK/

If you’re wondering why you should care about fracking, why Preston New Road is a key frontline in the resistance against dirty fossil energy, and why direct action is necessary – watch this brand new documentary http://player.lush.com/tv/power-trip-film-zoe-broughton-and-paul-oconnor

Reclaim the Power is a UK-based direct action network fighting for social, environmental and economic justice. We aim to build a broad-based movement, working in solidarity with frontline communities to effectively confront environmentally destructive industries and the social and economic forces driving climate change.
