Pennebaker (The War Room) comes this illuminating, suspenseful and deeply moving look at the unprecedented work of animal rights lawyer Steven Wise. After thirty years of struggling with ineffective animal welfare laws, Steve and his legal team make history by filing the first lawsuits that seek to transform an animal from a “thing” with no rights to a “person” with legal protections. At the centre of the tale are a variety of captive chimpanzees, whose cognitive complexity holds the key to his impassioned case.
